Living in the Present Moment

Right now a moment of time is fleeting by. Capture its reality in paint! To do that we must put all else out of our minds. We must become that moment. - Paul CÈzanne

If there is only one thought that you retain from this material I would like it to be that you should strive to make every moment of your life a meditation.

The present moment is all that we have. The past is gone and cannot be changed. The future has not happened yet and there is no point in fretting about what may happen in the next minute, day, month or year. Simply think to yourself – I can never repeat this moment and I have only a finite number of moments to experience in my life. Why not enjoy this moment… and this moment? Life is only a series of experiences. What kind of experiences do you want your life to be made of?

Being present in the moment is what you are doing when you meditate on your breathing, a mantra or other ritual. Carry that focus into your everyday, chaotic, distracting life. Keep your focus on now and let the rest go.

See how long you can last without losing focus. I cannot emphasize this too strongly - make every moment a meditation on what is going on at that particular instant.
